At its inception more than 15 years ago, The Fast One was traditionally a ride from the south of Johannesburg to Vanderbijlpark with the race finishing at the North West University’s Vaal Campus.

Since 2011, the race was moved to the Midvaal Race Course in Meyerton and both the start and finish is now at this venue. The race now follows a circular route.

The race is divided into 100 km and 50 km distances and there are various categories for both men and women cyclists.

The 2013 Fast One has a new sponsor in Value Logistics and prize money totalling R80 000 is available. The race is organised by the Riverside Rotary Club.
