LDYC Round the Island Race 2013

Sailors with a sail-worthy sailing craft of any description whatsoever are urged to drag it down with family and friends for a weekend of sailing and fun from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd February 2013. Hosted for the 55th year by Lake Deneys Yacht Club (LDYC) in Deneysville on the Vaal Dam, the event has held the Guinness World RecordTM since 2007 in the category of 'Most yachts in an inland race'. In 1986, as many as 712 boats participated and the spectacle of 400 odd boats jostling on the start line is awesome! The race was sponsored by Sanlam for 5 years but due to the poor financial scenario, it was one of the many casualties. However, the ‘Round the Island Race’ Weekend Regatta is an extremely well known fixture on the national sailing calendar.
