The Vaal River Barrage Reservoir hosts the first round of the National SA Formula 1 Powerboat Series. The event, which is part of the Vaal River Carnival, is held on the grounds of the Emerald Casino Resort. A great day’s entertainment can be enjoyed by the public, as the admission to the racing is free. Apart from the roar of the ultra-fast Formula 1 race which comprises three 15-lap heats, the event also includes junior and Formula 30 classes, as well as the Mercury development powerboat series where local youngsters can participate.
