Dorbyl Heavy Engineering Vereeniging, heavy mechanical equipment, grinding mills, kilns, mine winders, crushers, draglines, mechanical equipment
Dorbyl Heavy Engineering - DHE, (now trading as Dorbyl Heavy Engineering Vereeniging), was established in 1946 and is the oldest of the DCD-DORBYL business units. In 1973, Dorman Long (Africa) Ltd. - as the company was then known - amalgamated with the Vanderbijl Engineering Corporation Ltd (Vecor). The Vereeniging Works facility which was established in 1974 comprises a 16 000 m² machine shop and 50 000 m² of fabrication covered workshops. These facilities are now owned and managed by VECOR.
From a large and diversified company with over 5000 people, DHE has over the years become a much smaller and more specialised unit employing only 200 people, focusing on the production of engineered, heavy mechanical equipment products in keeping with changing mining, steel and allied industry markets. Some of the specialised products manufactured are grinding mills, kilns, mine winders, crushers, draglines and mechanical equipment for the Metallurgical Industry.
