Air Products operates and maintains an industrial gas plant and pipeline system for Sasol Chemical Industries’ (SCI) petrochemical facilities at Sasolburg. Built in 1998 to meet Sasol's industrial gas requirements, the facility (which replaced eight plants that were installed at the site in the 1950’s) produces 2100 tons per day of oxygen, 1440 tons per day of nitrogen and 50 tons per day of argon. Two 20 kilometer long parallel pipelines, from the Sasolburg site to Air Products industrial gas production complex in Vanderbijlpark, are used to convey an additional 900 tons per day of oxygen and up to 1440 tons per day of nitrogen as back-up for Sasol’s operations.
