African Cables is the only cable manufacturer in Southern Africa that supplies a complete range of cables from housewire up to 132 kilovolt cable, with various insulation materials, whilst Power Installations, a division of African Cables, install and maintain medium (11kv to 33kV) and high voltage cables (44kV to 132kV). Included in the manufactured range are low voltage PVC insulated cable, medium voltage XLPE, paper insulated cable and high voltage XLPE insulated cable. The company employs over 550 people and has a total plant area of 132 950 square metres of which 75 522 is under roof. It has a production capacity of 37 000 cable tons per annum.

African Cables has a 28% share of the South African power cable market with revenues of R1,5 billion in 2004. It also holds a 72% share in Cafca, a Zimbabwean cable manufacturer. Reunert acquired the 50% stake of African Cables owned by Pirelli NV in 30 September 2004 thus increasing its own stake to 100%. It then sold 25.1% of its cable interests to a black owned company Powerhouse Utilities (Pty) Limited in December, 2004. The empowerment transaction, valued at R130 million, became effective in December 2004.
