Monier Roofing SA has had a long history with the South African Market. The company can date its beginnings back to 1949 when the company, then known as Vereeniging Tiles Limited, installed the first double action line production tile machine.

Over the years Vereeniging Tiles Limited expanded dramatically. As a result, Coverland Roof Tiles was formed in 1976 by the merger of four major concrete roof tile manufacturers. The name Coverland was chosen for obvious reasons. The new company’s shareholding was equally held by the parent companies Tongaat Corogroup Ltd, Vereeniging Refractories Ltd and Redland Rooftiles of the UK.

With the aid of in-depth knowledge and technological expertise, Coverland evolved to become, what is today considered as, the largest concrete roof tile manufacturer in Southern Africa. Catering to the high demands of a multi-cultural market, Coverland produces an extensive range of award winning products - widely regarded as an encompassment of cost-effectiveness, modern designs, and above all, uncompromising quality. In December 1998, Coverland joined forces with Lafarge Roofing a division of the Lafarge Group.

In April 2007 Lafarge Roofing acquired 100% of the Kulu Group business. The company has further evolved to become the largest concrete roof tile manufacturer in southern Africa. The well balanced geographical spread has enabled the company to significantly reduce logistics costs.

In 2007 Lafarge Roofing became an independent company and changed the name to MONIER Group. The company has reverted back to its original name of Coverland, although it still remains part of the MONIER Group.
