South African based Consolidated Wire Industries, or CWI, as it is best known supplies mild steel wire, galvanised wire and other wire products through its Process Wire division and its Wire Products division.

Consolidated Wire Industries (50% owned by Mittal Steel) manufacturing facilities are located at Vanderbijlpark. It manufactures and supplies mild steel wire, galvanised wire fencing, welding wire, stapling and stitching wire, fasteners and other wire products, exporting a significant percentage of its total production to more than 40 countries worldwide.

The company has three divisions: Process Wire; Wire Products; and Fine Wire.

The Process Wire Division pickles, draws and galvanises mild steel wire rod from Iscor and Scaw Metals into black and galvanised wire in bulk, for various applications. Wire is produced in coils of 100 to 1000 kg weight and standard diameters. Bulk wire is sold to both export and local markets, as well as to CWI's Wire Products and Fine Wire divisions.

The Wire Products Division converts process wire to produce a wide variety of fencing and fastening products. The primary markets served are farmers (agricultural co-operatives), builders (hardware outlets), mines, fencing contractors and various state departments. Products include nails, mesh fencing, barbed wire, high tensile fencing wire, and wire for baling and binding. An advisory service to farmers involving fence erection, repair and maintenance and training of farm labourers is provided.

The Fine Wire Division manufactures products from wire produced by the Wire Products Division which include broad flat stitching wire, galvanised round stitching wire staple and general purpose industrial wire, as well as welding wire.
