Ceramic Industries

Pegasus (Pty) Ltd, was granted a tax allowance in terms of the Department of Trade and Industry’s Strategic Industrial Projects programme resulting in an estimated R30 million tax saving over three years. The project manufactures thin tiles similar in quality to the normal thicker tiles, but more affordable. The factory is designed to minimise waste at all stages of production and is strategically placed to be near the clay reserves servicing the production process. Using technology imported from Italy the production process takes under one hour from start to finish.

Pegasus

This factory manufactures extruded, hard wearing, heavy duty tiles, with a focus of replicating natural stone aesthetics and features. The factory is based out in Vereeniging and manufactures a limited range of 300*300, 300*400 and 400*400 tiles.

Ceramic Industries Ltd. is the largest South African manufacturer of ceramic tiles and sanitaryware (toilets, basins etc). During November 2002, Ceramic Industries started up the R220 million Pegasus pressed floor tiles factory on the outskirts of Vereeninging. A second kiln was successfully commissioned in April 2003 and the factory now has production capacity of approximately 25 000 m² tiles per day.

Plans to develop a R500-million large format floor tile plant in Vereeniging have been halted owing to a lack of progress in acquiring prospecting and mining licences, tile and sanitary ware manufacturer Ceramic Industries reported in September 2011.
